About the Artist:
Natalie Jane Parker was born in Sydney in 1971. At the age of 10, Natalie’s family moved to a five-acre block with bush surroundings and abundant wildlife, which would be a major influence in her talent as a wildlife artist.
Natalie excelled at art during school and later completed an Associate Diploma of Fine Arts at Newcastle College. This covered the many aspects of art including painting, drawing, photography, print making and sculpture. After experimenting with different styles and techniques it was wildlife art that Natalie felt the most rewarding and inspiring. Natalie has been a full-time artist since 1995, with her first solo exhibition at Morpeth Gallery. With 31 paintings for sale, only 3 remained unsold after the opening night. The exhibition was a complete sell-out, and Natalie received 28 commissions from this one show.
The demand for Natalie’s work has increased dramatically. A number of different publishers now commission her for work ranging from designs for giftware, calendars, open and limited-edition prints, greeting cards and even children’s books!
Since 2002, Natalie has become a very successful author/illustrator of no less than 23 children’s picture books. Themes for Natalie’s books include native Australian animals, insects as well as mythical characters, often set in an Australian bush setting. All have been very popular, with a number of her books being translated and published internationally.
Natalie resides in the Hunter Valley on a 50-acre property with her husband and young family, surrounded by farmland, native bush full of wildlife which provides continual inspiration for her work.
